Dream Boats

ƀƁƀ T he name, Taniwha, which in the Maori language identifies a supernatural creature – often marine, but not only – stands out on the stern of the new Southern Wind 105. She is a unique boat, new even though she is part of a mini-series that currently consists of four examples. This is a result achieved in stages. The owner wanted a cus- tom boat and once his wishes and needs were understood, the yard steered him towards the proven 105 naval platform, in the knowledge that it could then introduce all the client's requests. The result is a high-performance, highly custom- ised yacht and, as Andrea Micheli (Commercial Director Southern Wind) says, «if you see her alongside the other yachts in the miniseries, your first impression will undoubt- edly be that this is a different model». The deck is completely new, giving this 35-metre a sporty yet sophisticated character. The carbon fibre deck is covered with a very pale teak that gently follows the natural shapes of the hull, allowing them to be perceived. The design of the deckhouse is the distinguishing feature, however: compact and rounded, it seems to float on the deck. And the same curved forms are repeated in the gangways and interior. The fourth unit in Southern Wind's 105 series, and the lightest, she is a comfortable, high-performance blue water cruiser designed for high speeds and long distances. ƞijʼnƖ΄ŜĦ΄āåƂĀŜœ΄ǙĀƂĎ͚΄ƊĮĎ΄ƶåƊ΄ designed by Nauta Design and Farr Yacht Design by PAOLA BERTELLI
